Description

Pop-Up Dummy Hands — Add-On Attachment for Realistic Hand Placement & Tackling Accuracy

Pop-Up Dummy Hands are attachable extensions designed to fit directly onto a Pop-Up Dummy, adding a more life-like opponent profile for tackling  drills. Made from lightweight yet durable foam, these hands simulate an opponent’s arm position, giving players a realistic target to navigate around as they practice leverage, hand-fighting, shedding, and proper tackling approach. By adding arms to the pop-up dummy, athletes must approach with better technique, target selection, and path control.

Pop-Up Dummy Hands:

  • Create a more realistic “opponent shape” for blocking and tackling drills

  • Train defenders to work around extended arms, just as they would versus live linemen or ball carriers

  • Improve hand-fighting, swipes, chops, and clearance techniques

  • Enhance fit-up accuracy by forcing players to target the shoulder zone instead of a plain flat dummy surface

  • Add complexity to tackling progressions by requiring athletes to avoid or displace the arms before contact

Importance for Player Safety

Pop-Up Dummy Hands improve safety by enabling better training habits:

  • Reinforce proper head placement, as players must avoid the simulated arms

  • Promote clean leverage technique, reducing the chance of leading with the helmet

  • Reduce risky arm entanglements, giving athletes controlled practice of defeating extended limbs

  • Support skill development without live collisions, lowering repetitive strain on joints and shoulders

  • Help prevent poor tackling angles, since players must work around obstacles safely and efficiently

This attachment allows athletes to build safer contact mechanics before applying them against real opponents.

Example Drills

  1. Hand-Fighting & Clear Drill – Players engage the dummy’s extended arms, practicing chops, swipes, rips, or clubs to clear the “hands” before attacking the body.
  2. Shoulder-Leverage Tackle Drill – Athletes must slip or displace the arms before delivering a clean shoulder tackle and driving through the pop-up dummy.
  3. Block-Shed Simulation – The extended hands mimic an offensive lineman’s punch, allowing defenders to practice shedding techniques from realistic hand positions.
  4. Approach & Redirect Drill – Players approach the dummy, react to simulated arm position, and adjust their angle or level before making contact.
  5. Press & Extension Drill – Linemen practice striking, locking out, and controlling the extended arms to simulate a real block engagement scenario.
